Unusual Street Art

Yes it is an unusual street too in Sausalito California. Just over the water from San Francisco right on the shore. This guy balances rocks in the most unlikely ways - no there is no glue or steel bar through the middle.

This whole place has a lovely, warm Mediterranean feel to it.

Any hint of sarcasm should be reported to the management.

New Mexico!

In addition to the two excellent operas the culinary highlight of the trip was a visit to our friends in Los Alamos ( yes the place they had the first chain reaction and tested the first atomic bomb!)

It was like being in Denmark as far as food quality is concerned.

We started with Lacy Parmesan Wafers

followed by Watermelon-tequila Soup - really nice - a compliment indeed from someone who doesn't like melon! It tasted like an excellent, expensive cocktail. There was cream in it too so it looked a bit like a milkshake but tasted divine.

Next was the above - Veal Lombatina (grilled veal chops, perfectly prepared and garnished with, fresh from the garden, parsley and lemon.) served with dressed Mache salad and Eggplant, squash, Parmesan Tortino. ( a delicious baked dish with eggs as well as all the veggies)

Finally

Torta Nocciola - hazelnut tort with calvados sorbet - the boozy, melting in your mouth sorbet perfectly blending with the more dry texture of the Tort.

I should explain to our hosts that to be compared to Denmark - the houses of Little William and MK or T and B is the highest compliment.

Another Toaster Tank

For the many Beemer fans in my world readership. Note the funky silver cases on the back, drum brakes, kick starter which swings out perpendicular to the axis of the bike. ( as well as electric)-  don't you love it?

The insatiable culture vulture

Is back for his second opera in two days. Mozart's Marriage of Figaro
tonight. A healthy contrast with yesterday's Britten.
The 18th century Man-War has been replaced with a stage full of
flowers on tonight's stage and the sun, setting behind the stage had
more warm orange.
Billy Budd, last night, was the best opera I ever saw here and
possibly anywhere. The discordant flavors I have so long avoided in
Britten haunted me like newly-discovered foods I wished I had tasted
before. The all-male cast sang powerful choruses sometimes with just
sounds instead of words. This only emphasized the serious, tragic,
story - far from typical of an opera.
Simply a fantastic performance all round.

Sunset behind the set

Of Britten's Billy Budd ( it's the deck of a ship)
The opera house is open air but it does have a roof. 2000 ft higher
than Boulder - over 2000 metres with, thin, clear, hot air.
Watch this space for a review of the opera!

To stand around and watch the sunset over the "land of enchantment"

Falls

The falls are still falling but don't talk too much of fall!
We just had three days of constant rain and the garden is loving it.

Colorado Peach Pizza

The acid test

For a crisp crust: hold the edge of a slice and the centre (center)
shouldn't) sag! The pizza has Italian sausage, Provolone cheese (from
Italy) red, green and orange (bell) peppers, fried Colorado onions.
Based on a sandwich popular in the US.

Pizza

With pink and white fingerling potatoes, Fontina cheese from Aosta in
the Italian Alps, thyme and rosemary from my garden, Tellicherry black
pepper from India on a thin, crisp crust of Italian "Caputo 00" semolina flour.
(A very finely ground flour specially for pizza making)

Evocative sites

and sights for sore eyes - right across from where I bought the compressor a motorcycle scrapyard! I haven't seen one for years. It may inspire a Haiku over on awheywithwords if you behave yourselves!

New Baby

Been looking for a good compressor on craigslist for years and finally found this one in the backstreets of Longmont Colorado.

5 Horsepower motor twin cylinder 12 Cubic Feet per Minute. Perfect for blowing out sprinklers before the winter freeze up and blowing up tires (tyres in UK!)

new price around $500 I paid $80 what a barg!

Not sure where to keep it though as it needs 220 volts - two phases here!

A couple from the old album

little william and big william after their first long ride (and possibly only long ride) together - Shustoke to Solihull and back.
note the full beard and Claud Butler frame of Reynolds 531 tubing - 5 speed Suntour gears with a Power-Shifter.
( btw. Kauai was a business trip believe it or not and I didn't gain any weight still the same as in this photo roughly)

Doesn't this look like Daniel? I think it's William
Someone who had never seen a towelling nappy or a nappy pin thought he was being tortured by his mom!
