Two days old!

Sleeping and feeding very well. What else is there to do?
She does those things too.

Sunday morning

And ready for a fight. As long as somebody keeps putting my gloves
back on!

Saturday night

Sleepless?

I don't think so

One day old!

Sleeping, suitably swaddled.

Each nurse teaches us a different way to wrap Rose in two blankets
(swaddling).
Current consensus is that she looks like her dad - poor girl.
Hoping to be home today. Rose and Lumy are fine, we are all
exhausted. Izzy, who wanted to be present, is in New York for Spring
Break. Thanks to the many who sent us love and support. We could not
be happier.

Yesterday it rained heavily

Most of the day - then a foot of snow in two hours.

More signs

They may be the smallest ones I have ever seen but they must be
crocuses sitting among the roses which look dead. My reward for
planting them five months ago.
I miss the snowdrops! Pretty rare here I have planted them several
times here but squirrels love to eat the corms (which of course we all
know are fundamentally different from bulbs).
Do they still grow at Hollylands at the top of the field?

Spring?

This was all caused by people declaring that spring had sprung!

In the snow this morning I repaired a Maytag Dishwasher and connected an icemaker. After that we had a snow day - except Isadora who went to school in the snow at 7am.

Ditchwater Dishwater

Dull as ditchwater, as I said, is the English version.
My mother always said "dull as ditchwater" it is in the Dictionary of English Idioms.
Dull as dishwater is in the American dictionary of Idioms and not the English one.

I suspect, however, that readers find this even more boring than the length of my morning swim.
(incidentally - today I didn't swim because I didn't feel like shoveling snow in the dark before I could get to the pool)

Some people talk about their breakfasts (or used to) some about their cycle riding, some about taking church services, bonfires, babysitting and cleaning houses. What is the point of criticizing how others spend their lives?

Like books, tv shows and newspapers, pick up and read the ones you like. I read all the family blogs and mostly enjoy the photographs.

Readers are duly warned that there will be a lot of baby pictures on this blog soon.

The blogger has the power to delete comments but the commenters do not. It is too easy to delete comments one doesn't like. Much better to leave them there in the face of the person who wrote them. Of course they would never admit to regretting them but I suspect they do. There is always the hope of some words of support too.

Weekend Thoughts

After a week of fixing furnaces, changing locks and clearing up a house after and electrical fire, installing a tv in someones bedroom, replacing a thermostat, installing a tap (here called a hose bib) in a garage, working on my new, old, free espresso machine, fixing Bugaboo brakes, swimming 6 miles. I am trying to inspire a few comments here by actually writing something.
We went to the doctors on Friday and Rose is now estimated to Weigh 5 pounds and has about 6 weeks to go. She continues to kick L around day and night, sometimes painfully but the doctor says all sign's are that she is a very healthy baby. She is also, like her dad, very interested in flashlights (torches for the UK people) We read a weekly commentary on what is developing during the week and some time ago she was supposed to be able to see light and recognize voices. She certainly responds to flashlights when shone on Momma's belly!

I have a confession to make about swimming. I have started the daily mile again, but to my horror, the pool I have been swimming in for a year is 25 yards long not 25 meters. I had originally been assured by a member of the pool staff that it was 25 meters so I was doing 60 lengths and claiming to have done a mile every morning. I had been impressed with my ability to swim a mile in 40 minutes are so at age 60 just as I had at age 50. Now I realize why Alcatraz took me so much longer than 5 years ago because I was swimming 10% less than a mile during practice and the 1.5 mile swim seemed further than I expected.
I found that it took me almost an hour to do the necessary 72 lengths last week but I have knocked about 10 minutes (and a couple of pounds) off this week.
The weather here has been consistently better than Copenhagen in terms of temperature, snow, sunshine and every other measure this winter I must admit.

My post a month or so ago about Skirting boards and baseboards is still attracting the strangest comments, the most recent one about genital herpes in women. Earlier ones are impossible to comprehend. I guess there is some kind of automatic search engine looking for certain words, but why are those words of interest to anybody? We bloggers receive comments, on our blogs, as emails so I guess you guys haven't even notice the comments.

Saturday Brazilian Tradition

Feijoada - pronounced "feshwada" (in my opinion)
a stew with sausage, pork and black beans, served with Farofa (manioc with eggs and stuff in it - the yellow stuff in the white bowl which many Americans describe as sawdust), rice - which has garlic and onions in it, julienned collard greens (some sort of cabbage, "collard" is the American name for it)

Pao de Queijo

For a Sunday tradition Pao de Queijo (pronounced Po(M) but don't close your mouth on the "m" je cachu) - Brazilian Cheese Bread, Made with Manioc flour (tapioca flour) a ton of cheese, eggs and oil.

Monday night is ----

Parents-to-be class. The teacher was saying that in 1974 when her son
was born, dads were not present ever. I bragged that it was not at all
unusual in England at that time for dads to be present. W was born in
74 and g made it all look very easy.

Paella for dinner.

Very good! with special saffron rice, chicken, chorizo, pork, shrimp,
red peppers.

tWas a sad day

This BMW Crash Helmet I bought in 1985 and cost more than £100 had to
go in the trash, still without a mark on it! They are only supposed to
last 10 years and the insides were falling apart. I remembered the red
one I left at Shustoke for B to use and rats nested in it.

Bugaboo

With two new wheels very kindly sent to us by W and MK currently
sitting in Rose's room. The first baby gift we have received and we
are extremely grateful and can't wait to use it.
