New member of the family!

No it's not Rose - it's a 1993 Nuova Simonelli Two Group Espresso
Machine which I am rebuilding. It seems to have spent much of it's
life getting kicked around - rather than making coffee.

Chip buttie

The Brasilians love them with sliced tomato. I introduced them to them
but I still never had one in my life.

Max

Fancy banister?

No! just fancy snow note the ice antennae on the caterpillar-like snow banister.

Boulder's less proud side

Boulder is the only place in the USA that signed the Kyoto Protocol. People here are slim, athletic, spiritual, vegetarian and allergic to everything especially greenhouse gases.

But look what's in our backyard! as C Eng. has already heard and recognized - yes a coal burning power station - the things that Americans think are from the past, but actually generate most of our electricity.

It looks as if it's on an island but isn't really. I guess the water obviates the need for cooling towers. Smoke only ever comes from the one chimney and it only smokes when the weather is cold. We have a lot more snow today but we are more used to it than the Danes. I still hate every flake of it though!

Grandad? Handyman? Dad?

After unblocking sinks and repairing dishwashers on a very cold, snowy Saturday, spending the gains on baby clothes. Winning the contest for the oldest guy in the baby department! and loving it.

Thanks for the warm jacket/pullover to the Danish wing of the Millards.

Six weeks to go!

The green zone

1 Bar boiler pressure and 9 Bar pump pressure at the grouphead. As you
can see the replacement pressure gauge is up and running. The machine,
unbeknown to me, had only been able to run at all because the pump
pressure was about 20 Bar. Numerous blockages were cleared and the
pressure set to the optimum 9 Bar.
The grouphead, for the unenlightened, is the thing you insert the
portafiler (the thing with the coffee in it)
The temperature and pressure (92C and 9 Bar) of the water for making
the coffee is different from that in the boiler which is used for
steaming milk (C Eng to provide the temp of water boiling at 1,1 Bar).
Fresh, softened, water passes through a coil inside the boiler on it's
way to the grouphead.
Anyone still awake? Need coffee?
Come on over everyone is welcome.

Invisible mending

Moving the computer desk downstairs, to begin the creation of Rose's
room, I broke one end in half.
A row of accurately positioned cornflakes resulted in this strong,
invisible repair.
For those who don't remember that scene from "The Two Ronnies" I
actually used wood glue.
