Daily Bread!

I discovered gluten so I can make chewy bread with big bubbles or "open crumb" as we bakers call it!

Good crust like this is easy if you spray the bread and the inside of the oven frequently during the first few minutes of baking. This delays the formation of the crust and facilitates the migration of sugars to the surface. These sugars eventually form the crust

Raspberry, blackberry, pear and strawberry tarts, made with fresh fruit, for dessert.

Thanks for your comments keep them coming

I can still remember the era of fish in cheese sauce, spag bol or steak and chips- followed by lemon syrup sponge and custard! That is about 15 years ago now though! I don't think that the Belling slimline had a steam injection facility did it? You used to make that banana in brown sugar thing in the microwave as well.

Just put some shelves up in Tim's room- having spent the day looking for a suitable toy-box.

For 25th, That picture album that you bought for Elaine when Tim was born has given her a lot of pleasure filling up, and she lows peanut butter cups!

The end of an era- (and I am not even joking)has just occured.

Elaine and Tim are at church, and I have just got back from 11 miles running. I just took the oportunity to eat some toast and have some moderately loud music on. The music began to sound less and less "bassey," so I removed the speaker covers. DISASTER, the foam bit around both bass speakers is hanging off/ detached. My first thought was that little fingers may have had a poke, but some research has shown that the foam has lost its elasticity and if you rub it, it just falls apart. I am now at a loss- you gave me the speakers 13 years ago and they were probably at leat 10 years old then, so I suppose that they are out of waranty? I now don't know whether to see about repair options, or to consign them to the great disco in the sky?

One of my favorite possessions is now reduced to 'useless ornament' status........ I have never had a Hi Fi fatality before.....

I think that BenBen's dating of the speakers is a little kind.
I remember them being the first possessions to be awarded room space in Ullenhall rd in 1973, or am I wrong?
They always were a liability in a small house!
