The Lonliness of the Long Distance Grandad

"All the instruments agree" to quote Auden (I think)
When they were gone
Twas a grey day.

I left them in sunshine at the airport - Jeremy not wanting to leave without me.
The sun covered itself as I drove home
and did not rise this morning
merely changing the color of the sky
Now only memories of walks, wildflowers,

and picnics
remain
No instructions needed for nibbling sweetcorn

K carried J on our last walk - it was about five miles and we estimated K was carrying 25% of her own weight on her back.
J's reaction was the same as when W carries him - sleep sleep sleep.
A great walk marked the end of two glorious weeks of company, weather, walking, swimming, riding and eating.

Comments:
We know how you feel, and send you the best wishes for the the passing untill the little family -so dear to all of us-is back again. It was so fine to follow you and the projects for the days.
Hope to see you here again.

It was awesome for you to have that glorious time with them and have all those memories stored.

Thanks for a great couple of weeks, we are already looking forward to the winter (even if you are dreading the weather) when we can visit again. THis time we'll take you out in the snow to see if we can get you to enjoy that as well!

Enjoyed all the photos & comments of your son & family visiting.

A couple weeks back we in LA got a whiff of the Beckham experience, the papers full of D's soccer/futbol introduction with the LA Galaxy. There was also an hour long special on Posh/Victoria, and .... to my great surprise, I fell in love with her. She is such a breath of fresh air, doesn't ahve a team of vacuous people around her, takes charge of her family and daily life. She's pains-taking nice to EVERYONE, she's a great sport in the midst of the crazy life of a celebrity. You can't imagine how the constant chain of narcissistic, moral-less 20+ celebrity news wears on your sanity. Lot of regard for V/P despite her vain world.

Went to the Reagan Library recently to see the Polish President give Pres Reagan a posthumous medal for all he did for Poland. Very stirring event, all these people around me looking like Roman Polanski or Mikhail Baryshnikov .... and all these reminders of the WWII Polish Uprising and Solidarity in the 80's.

Almost 100 here.

You've got to
accentuate the positive
eliminate the negative,
Latch on to the affirmitve
and don't mix with mr inbetween!
Bing.
Not sure about the last line, only the main theme.
No doubt you know the lyricist

Why did you two strapping blokes let K carry J anyway?
He'll be needing his own moot over there before you know it.
