Porage, porridge etc
I suspect g is referring to my spelling thereof. On the Scotts box it
is spelled porage. What more authority could there be than on the box
of the stuff?
I have not swum since I started this job and I miss it a lot.
I am now worried that there isn't enough work to go round.

It's a brand name apparently
"Scott's Porage Oats is a Scottish breakfast cereal (a brand of porridge) sold in the United Kingdom."

So as long as he was eating Scott's cereal, then you were correct- any other brand and you cannot spell! BM
Well, were you eating Scott's Porage Oats?
If so, you are off the hook.
We have an Irish brand at present, as it was considerably cheaper.
It's called "porridge" as far as I recall.
