Sunday best
For the first shopping trip of R's life yesterday she wore her best
dress. Because she was a couple of weeks early we were advised to keep
her out of public places. She slept through most of the trip and the
shopping. She is feeding about every three hours and has gained a
pound since leaving the hospital almost a month ago. Yes, as some
cynics predicted, we are feeling a little sleep deprived but nobody
complains much because the rewards far outweigh such minor
inconveniences
She is supposed to gain an ounce per day now but we won't know until
next Monday if she has.
Our kitchen scale only goes up to 5lb (2 kilo) and our efforts to
weigh someone holding her and then not holding her on the bathroom
scales, are not accurate enough.
Daffodils are finally "fluttering and dancing in the breeze" (words of
another William) and the weather is warm enough not to need the heat
at the moment. I am well aware, however, that it could snow in May

Adjusting to our car seat!
Having been tested, in it, at the hospital for blood oxygenation. They
also installed it correctly in the car before we were allowed to leave.
It fits on the Bugaboo too.

Does she look like her momma or what?
R's first bath at home
Umbilical stump gone and we are test riding our new baby bath. She enjoyed it! highly sophisticated with a stretchy pink hammock inside and notches to fit it over the kitchen sink.
We were going to have a photo but we decided it was a bit too revealing
Talking of sophistication, nappies (diapers) have come a long way toosince W&B in the 70s with white towelling ones in a bucket. These
disposable ones fit well, hold tons of stuff, don't have to be washed
and keep her dry even when they are wet. There is a yellow stripe on
the ouside which turns green when the inside is wet. Tabs which stick
where they should and nowhere else, soft, smooth and nice-smelling.
She is feeding and sleeping well and we have our fingers crossed for a
good weight gain on Tuesday when we go for her first appointment with
our new family doctor.
Yesterday (Sunday) we had a test run with R going to work with L for a
few hours while dad earned a crust replacing a fence post. Always fun
digging out a two foot depth of concrete and old wood to set the new
post in new concrete.
